The writers of How I Met Your Mother: Literally make an entire episode comparing Ted and Robin to Ted’s divorced parents and show why they’d never work as a couple.
Barney: Becomes everyone’s favorite character (and is sometimes the only good thing about the show).
Ted: Becomes more and more annoying as the show goes on.
The audience: Gets sick of Ted and Robin’s romance, and instead love her relationship with Barney.
Robin: Does not want children, is focused on her job and wants to travel the world.
Ted: Wants children and a peaceful life in the suburbs.
Barney: Is the man who always says “challenge accepted” and has all kinds of crazy adventures.
Robin: Literally tells Ted she doesn’t love him and chose to marry Barney.
The Mother/Tracy: is so likable that she actually makes people like Ted again and is one of the few reasons anyone was still watching.
The Finale: Has Barney giving up on the love of his life because she traveled a lot and there was no wi-fi in the hotel she took him to, while Tracy dies so the writers can force Robin to get back together with Ted and be his kid’s step-mom.
The audience: Hates the last episode so much they start hating the story as a whole

How I Met Your Mother is the only show other than GOT who’s final managed to retroactively kill everything associated with it, it’s crazy.
Though TBF, the writers weren’t always the same and most writers who came to write a few episode and fuck off to their next contract probably didn’t watch the show and only had a vague idea of the characters.
LOST ended with the reveal that they were all killed in the plane crash and the show was their halucinations as they were dying
LOST doesn’t count because it became unwatchable long before that point.
